PESTS
I love my plants and they mean a lot to me, watching them grow and blossom causes a lot of happiness. But they can come to serious harm by pests and it can be a constant fight to keep them safe. Greenfly often attacks my roses. What I do to help prevent this is to use washing up liquid and water then spray them with a hand spray. This is harmless to the environment and will really protect your roses from a serious attack. Ladybugs are also very useful and should be encouraged as the eat up to 300 greenfly a day
Slugs and snails are real problem especially in a wet climate like ours. They really like green foliage to munch on. Snails and slugs like beer. If you put beer in margarine tubs this stops them eating plants out doors. They are attracted to the beer and will drown leaving the plants alone
Snails and slugs also hate salt..it kills them also. A good method to keep them away from you plants is to put down egg shells. Another old fashioned method is to use sheets of copper it creates a barrier and stops them from eating your plants.
