FORGOTTEN MAN

Brave son of Glasgow.
Officer fair.
No grandeur here,
Just a soldier with flair.

Compassionate leader,
Commander of men.
Schooled the Light Infantry,
Time and again.

A winter in hell,
Over mountains of Spain,
Pursued by the French,
To Corunna they came.

Mortally wounded
Unbearable pain.
His thoughts still of others
The Spanish campaign

Fighting retreat,
And an army he saved.
Say thank you Wellesley
for foundations laid.

No coffin for Moore,
Not a shroud, just his cloak.
But do they remember
A truly brave bloke.
