THE SEVENTH WAVE
Darren loved surfing. He was out every day catching the waves. He wanted to find out if the story about the seventh wave was true. His father had repeatedly told him that the waves may have a pattern, but the moon ruled the tides, and the wind ruled the waves. He wanted to prove him wrong.
He spent hours challenging the huge Californian waves forever counting to find out I there was a mathematical pattern. It was becoming an obsession with him. All the enjoyment of riding the waves slowly was disappearing.
Anita, his girlfriend, a champion surfer, loved dancing the waves. Her tanned body glistened in the sun. Her eyes sparkled with excitement.
‘Come on Darren,’ she shouted. ‘Forget all about counting the waves. Let us have some fun.’
He was so intense on his task that he never even heard her. She shook her head as she eyed huge waves. Filling with excitement she knew she would accept the challenge. She soared high on the waves and zoomed down and up again. She roared with laughter, there was no feeling in the world like surfing the waves. She forgot about Darren and left him to continue with his boring counting.
Time passed and she came ashore. She looked behind to see Darren still surfing with a serious look on his face. Later she sat out the balcony of the beach house. Darren’s dad stood beside her with a worried look on his face. ‘Look at him. He’s obsessed with finding the seventh wave.’
Suddenly, there was a huge roar A massive wave erupted and crashed everything before their eyes. Darren disappeared into the curling mass of water. His dad screamed, ‘We need to head for high ground.’
Several minutes later the beach house vanished under the water. In safety, Anita was clinging to Darren’s sobbing dad. ‘It's all my fault. He tried to prove me wrong. I told him that the story of the seventh wave was nonsense.’
Anita was shaking and crying in shock. She screamed. ‘‘He would not listen to me. He finally found the seventh wave, and it found him.
